A major focus of this foundation is to nurture young readers and writers. This is accomplished by providing a book with companion audio recording and listening devices to pre-kindergarten children each year in our "Book Bag" program. The combination of looking at the book while listening to the text being read offers support for language development and for understanding the concept of "story." The book bags also contain additional age-appropriate books. Since the foundation was created in 2005, book bags have been provided to over 3,500 children in Missouri. The efforts of the foundation are not limited to children who have yet to start school as books are also provided to children of all ages through school and community organizations.
